Why I still celebrate virgins, despite death threats -

Born to the prominent Adediran family in Lagos, Princess Adunni Adediran has always had a soft spot for the less privileged in society. The s uccessful businesswoman, mother and philanthropist just a few months shy of her 70th birthday met a lot of brick walls over the years after she launched a non-governmental organization (ngo) celebrating chastity before marriage which she called Nigerian Virgin Girls; and has had to rest the program for some years.
This year, by “popular demand”, she is revisiting the annual celebration which would culminate in the Miss Virginity Pageant. Speaking to Vanguard, she shares her journey. Excerpt

Princess Adediran
Princess Adediran
At a point, I started thinking of our old people in this country, so I published ‘Fragile Fit’, a magazine that was dealing with weak limbs of the elderly. Alhaji Lateef Jakande loved it and said the publication was even over due. As I was doing that, I dreamt 11 times where I organised ‘Recognising and encouraging the virgins in Nigeria’. That is how I started the project in 2007.
Why has there not been consistency in organising the annual event?
I spoke to the who-is-who in this country for sponsorship such Princess Erelu Dosunmu, Late Ambassador Segun Olusola and many others. A lot of them indicated their interest to help but we did not get sponsors except for the owner of Emily Millionaire cosmetics, Joe Brown, who was giving us cosmetics.
Rado was giving us wrist watches to distribute to the virgins. The one that really touched me was the help we got from the

Caught in the act: Question mark over Adokiye’s virginity -

When singer, architect, and goodwill ambassador, Adokiye Kyrian, confessed in an interview with Vanguard last year that she was still a virgin, she generated a storm of bewildering comments. Then at 23, few believed her. But Adokiye has a price tag to her virginity and threw the bait at any daring suitor who would buy her mother the private jet she long promised her.
After the kidnap of the Chibok girls by Boko Haram, Adokiye made a detour on the price tag by offering her virginity to the dreaded lot in exchange for the release of the abducted girls.
But if the picture sent to Showtime is anything worth its salt, Adokiye might have some questions to answer concerning her virginity as she was caught red-handed frolicking with two White men in bed. Showtime isn’t saying anything has gone down but you don’t have a girl in bed with guys just for the fun of it. Or do you?

For those who have a long memory, you would have to excuse it for a minute or so. Forget Angela had told us she was a born-again Christian of high spirituality. I guess that happened to her when she met her Pastor, then “old things have passed away’ but making out of what she told Potpourri those “Old things may be things of future past”.
In the chat with Potpourri, she wasn’t talking about Christ coming soon, but about nudity and sex and how it is the salt of entertainment. She even took a jibe at Nigerians, observing that Nigerians are hypocrites who love nudity but pretend not to because of some cultural and religious orientations they would sooner kick than keep.

Why we have sex

Sex, since the history of man or human evolution has gone through several changes, even in terms of definition and form and the individuals engaging in it. Once upon a time, sex was thought to be primarily for reproductive reasons, then for the relief of sexual tension and later, for the sexual pleasure. Right from the explosive documentation of the Kama Sutra, various studies and experiences have been carried out by persons and institutions to unravel the mystery of human sexology and why, besides procreation, sex is important to mortal men and women.
Incest-cartoonFrom the researches of Alfred Kinsey who is regarded as the father of sexology in the 40s and 50s to Masters and Johnson’s famous researches on orgasms of the 60s and 70s, sex has become a subject of great interest to all.

Shocking truth of how 38 illicit gin drinkers died

WOJI—HAIR-RAISING particulars of how at least 38 residents of Woji and other communities in Obio/Akpo, Bonny and Gokhana Local Government Areas, Rivers State, breathe their last breath, 24-72 hours after drinking suspected toxic locally brewed gin, popularly known as Kai Kai at a dog meat joint have emerged.
Proprietor of dog meat joint, Mr. Friday Dickson, purported to have laced the delicacy with killer- seasoning, hotly denied the allegation. He spoke to Niger Delta Voice at the Woji Police Divisional Headquarters, where he is under custody. Irate youths razed his restaurant, but Dickson, who has been in the business for over a decade, recalled that a man called Chikobi and Chiefo brought the local gin to his restaurant that Sunday allegedly to celebrate his new chieftaincy title.
Mr.-Jerry,-just-before-he-died
Mr.-Jerry, just-before-he-died
Curiously, the celebrant did not drink the gin he brought.  The wife of one of the victims corroborated Dickson’s story. The mysterious Chikobi, said to be a Yoruba man from Ogun state, is on the run after the episode but Dickson said he could recognize him if he sees him. There is also a puzzle on how the killer-gin got to Bonny and Gokhana local governments. Chikobi came to Woji but there is no information on who took the gin to aforementioned two local governments.
Except he left Woji for the Bonny and Gokhana after the “celebration of death” or they were other merchants of death. Investigation by Niger Delta Voice revealed that many of the victims expired wrestling with death, vomiting and complaining of abdominal pain. Some lost their vision, cried of chest and waist pains.

am not available to serve in Buhari’s govt now – Soludo -

It has been difficult tracking Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo (former Governor of the Central Bank) since his bombshells before the general elections, but finally we tracked him down in his private library at his residence in Abuja on Friday, 5th June, 2015. He seemed unwilling to say much, at least for now.  But it was still vintage Soludo, and some of the issues he raised are explosive.
He sees hope and opportunities for the new Government, even though he says his current engagements will not allow him to join the government on a full time basis, contrary to wide speculations. He says he can however freely offer advice to the government if needed.
Soludo says: Nigeria needs a Job Manifesto, and that solid minerals and agriculture can’t be relied upon for job creation; Argues that a sustainable change will not occur without a new constitution; says the clamour for zoning and sharing of public offices is an elite power game which has little to do with the masses and therefore misplaced; believes the argument for local government autonomy is anti-federalism; is waiting for the action plan from the new government before joining the debate on the agenda;  says his public spat with Okonjo-Iweala was unfortunate; raises questions about the proposal by CBN governor on selling government equity stakes in oil for immediate revenue as well as the new NBS data on unemployment; etc.

Amaechi, Wike Controversy On The Looted Governor’s House In Rivers

He said, “It is unimaginable that the beds chairs and official crested rugs in the Governor’s official quarters were stolen. Even the foam they left is Mouka foam, which they used to replace the original foam.”

The latest disagreement between outgoing Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and newly elected Governor Nyesom has Amaechi saying that he is “not a looter” as controversy over missing funds from the State.

On Monday, Governor Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), took leaders of the State on a tour of the Government House in Port Harcourt, which he alleges was looted and vandalized by the outgoing Amaechi administration.

Speaking with journalists after the tour, Rivers State PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, condemned the vandalism.

He said, “It is unimaginable that the beds chairs and official crested rugs in the Governor’s official quarters were stolen. Even the foam they left is Mouka foam, which they used to replace the original foam.”

However, Amaechi is dismissing the claims raised by Governor Wike as a cheap smear campaign designed to intimidate his administration and gain Governor Wike billions of Naira from the State Treasury under the appearance of renovating a vandalized and looted Government House.

He rebuffed Wike’s claim that he looted the Governor’s bedroom by saying, “did Wike know what was in my former bedroom before now, to conclude that the bedroom was looted?”

Amaechi noted, “It’s instructive to note that on Friday, May 29, Wike had barred some key officials of Government House, including civil servants from accessing the place. Forty-eight hours later, he started shouting vandalism and looting. This doesn’t smell right”

He ended by calling for the people of Rivers State to ask Governor Wike what happened within those 48 hours.

This saga is only another episode of the drama between Rotimi Amaechi and PDP officials since he defected from the party to join the APC.

The question about who looted the Governor’s House is unveiling itself to be another expression of APC and PDP party animosities.
